Drama Review: Fabulous Boys / 原來是美男

The management company of the idol group A.N.JELL insisted on adding a new singer to the group as the lead vocal, Tae Kyung's voice was hurting. However, the new member, Mi Nam, had to go to the States to repair a botched eye job just before signing the contract. His agent came up with the idea of having his twin sister, Mi Nyu,to stand in for him and pretend that she was her brother. The two of them grew up in an orphanage and Mi Nyu, who was all set to become a nun, agreed to this charade as she didn't want to spoil her brother's chance of fame which would make it easier to look for their mother.

Essentially, this is the remake of the Korean drama "You're Beautiful" which I have previous reviewed here if you are interested reading that. At first, I was all AIN'T NOBODY GONNA BE TAE KYUNG BETTER THAN MY MAN, JANG GEUN SUK and just kind of assumed this Taiwanese version was just basically going to the same thing except different characters and language. In the first few episodes, it really did feel that way, but as the drama went on, I began loving the Taiwanese version more and more.

Newcomer Cheng Yu Xi as Mi Nam/Mi Nu

I think Cheng Yu Xi (程予希) was great in this drama. I believe she is a new actress on the scene and I have a feeling she's going to become really popular - I'm already a huge fan! She's got the perfect puppy eye/doll/babyface so she was able to pull off the role of both Mi Nam and Mi Nu really well. I also thought her actions/acting was a bit more natural than Park Shin Hye. Speaking of her, I was very surprised to see her cameo in the first episode, I thought that was really cool that they did that.

Finally! We see them side by side. Real Mi Nam is so ~cool~ bahahah

The thing I loved about this particular remake was that they showed Cheng Yu Xi as both Mi Nam and Mi Nu in the same shot and kind of showed how much these siblings love and respect each other. I recall being SO disappointed that they didn't show that in the Korean version and mentioning that I would have loved if they showed more of the siblings' relationship. So thank you, Taiwan version, for doing this! :3

I loved this scene <3 Credit: hellotoyourself on tumblr

MY HEART... how cute are they??

Also the OST is perfection!!! I love 愛情怎麼喊停 by 曾沛慈 and Jiro's song 半個人. I'm a Jiro fan but I can't actually decide who depicted Tae Kyung better. Because I watched You're Beautiful a while ago, my memory may be a blur but I think Jang Geun Suk portrayed the coldness really well, while Jiro portrayed the teddy bear-ness of the role better. I'm not even sure if I'm explaining myself correctly so if you agree/disagree please let me know!

I liked this ending a bit more. I believe in the Korean version, Mi Nu still goes to Africa. This version implies that she stays and kind of lets the audience create their own ending. Overall, this drama = A++++!

Check out one of my favourite songs off the OST below!
